They are usually installed on the roof of buildings and, through ducts, the air is circulated to reach each of the rooms in the building.

Variable refrigerant flow is a technology that circulates only the minimum amount of refrigerant needed during a single heating or cooling period. This mechanism introduced the opportunity for end users to individually control several air conditioning zones at one time.In its simplest form a single VRF/VRV outdoor unit serves multiple indoor units.
VRF/VRV technology achieves extremely high efficiencies by varying the flow of refrigerant to the indoor units based on the exact demands of the individual areas. This allows for precise temperature control and resulting zoned comfort.

This type of cooler uses Ducts for air distribution. It ensures the supply of fresh cool air which is done by the evaporative cooling principle . It also pushes out the stale air from the area, thus reduces the CO2 level inside the living spaces

Variable air volume (VAV) system enables energy-efficient HVAC system distribution by optimizing the amount and temperature of distributed air.
VAV system supply air at a variable temperature and airflow rate from an air handling unit (AHU) . Because VAV system can meet varying heating and cooling needs of different building zones, these system are found in many commercial buildings. Unlike most other air distribution system, VAV system are flow control to efficienty condition each building zone while maintaining required minimum flow rates.
